DeGeorge Home Improvements

Every October, employees of DeGeorge Home Improvements pack up their “skeleton crew” and set up shop in the parking lot of the Penn Brook School in Georgetown for the annual Trick- or-Trunk event hosted by the Georgetown Special Education Parents Advisory Council (SEPAC).

It’s a place where children with special needs can enjoy some safe and spooky fun without the chaos of traditional Halloween trick-or-treating.

“Not only do we provide financial sponsorship, but our employees come out every year to set up, pass out candy, and engage with the kids,” said Louis DeGeorge, owner of the Boxford-based general contracting company that services Boxford, Georgetown, Rowley, Topsfield, Newburyport and surrounding communities. “This has become a family event for our employees who often bring their own children to join in the event. Our whole team experience has strengthened our ongoing relationship with the SEPAC.”

Engaging with and contributing to their local community is part of the corporate philosophy at DeGeorge Home improvements, which was founded in 2012 after Louis left a long and successful career in the corporate world. The transition from large corporation to small business owner came at a time when Louis needed to be closer to home to care for his ailing father. The time together allowed him to reflect on things that were important to him and revisit a passion that he truly loved. He treasured his youth working on building projects alongside his uncle and grandfather and he decided to pursue that passion as a new career.

Today, DeGeorge Home Improvements – which prides itself on personalized customer service – is one of the leading home remodeling companies in Essex County and has been voted Best of the North Shore multiple times.
“We love being part of the community,” said Louis. “And we recognize that the concept of community really means supporting one another and sharing the responsibilities together.”

This is why giving back is such a big part of what DeGeorge Home Improvements does.

“We sponsor many nonprofit organizations and specifically focus on education and youth programs, medical research institutions, as well as arts and culture,” said Louis.

The Georgetown SEPAC, Education Foundation and PTA, along with the Boxford PTO, the Newburyport Documentary Film Festival and many local youth sports teams are just some of the organizations DeGeorge regularly supports through sponsorship, funding and volunteer work.

This year, the company decided to join Essex County Community Foundation as a Corporate Partner.

“The opportunity provided by ECCF aligns with our belief in giving back to the community, but on a bigger scale,” said Louis. “Our partnership with ECCF truly elevates our community engagement and helps us meet our goal to broaden our support of the great work that so many other nonprofits are doing in Essex County.”

It’s part of the larger notion that moving forward as a community, and as a region, requires innovative new partnerships that make our cities and towns more resilient to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

“At DeGeorge Home Improvements, we recognize that investing in the work of the nonprofit sector is vital to creating sustainable, positive change and truly impacting the lives of those in our community,” continued Louis. “We are proud to partner with ECCF to realize that goal.”
