ECCF to Manage Fiduciary Responsibilities for GE Funding in North Shore Workforce Development Plan
A partnership between the Baker administration and GE Foundation – the charitable arm of one of the largest manufacturers on the North Shore – will pump $4.5 million into workforce development training that they hope will ultimately help to fill the hundreds of vacant advanced manufacturing jobs on the North Shore.
The State’s $2 million has been used to buy new, state-of-the-art equipment for Advanced Manufacturing and machining for the shop floor at Lynn Vocational Technical Institute, where the announcement of the partnership was made on Nov. 21. The complementary $2.5 million from GE Foundation will be used to hire additional teachers and expand the training available to both students and adults at Lynn Tech, Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School and Gloucester High School.
Essex County Community Foundation is honored to announce that the foundation has been selected to manage the fiduciary responsibilities for GE’s funding.
“We’re proud to play a small role in the incredible systems work that will help give an economic boost to Essex County communities and residents,” said ECCF President and CEO Beth Francis.
In 2015, the Baker administration began working to align education, economic development, and workforce policies. Then, in 2016, a GE announcement of a headquarters move to Boston and plan to invest $50 million in the community-initiated planning for an investment in Lynn Tech that tied in local legislators and educators, MassHire workforce experts and North Shore Community College.
