The First Annual Institute for Trustees
| "My colleagues and I were filled with ideas and inspiration to help move our program up a notch in the coming year. To say nothing of gaining a sense of real citizenship in the Essex County public charities community"...

Judging from the feedback, ECCF’s first annual Essex County Institute for Trustees on March 27 was a resounding success! More than 280 board trustees and executive directors attended the event, which lived up to its promise to be “A day of instructive and inspirational workshops filled with critical information for those in leadership roles at nonprofit organizations.”
After receiving an overview of the job of trustees in 2010 by ECCF President and CEO Dave Welbourn, attendees enjoyed breakout sessions on topics ranging from board development, board evaluation and succession planning to running effective meetings, and legal issues for trustees. Next everyone met in the theater for a presentation by David Spackman, chief of the Non-Profit Organizations/Public Charities Division, Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.
"I just attended the First Annual Essex County Institute for Trustees, and I feel so pumped up with regard to board development and even fundraising! The facilitators were all excellent, and who would guess that a topic such as Fiduciary Responsibilities and Legal Issues could be so entertaining yet so enlightening?"

During lunch, attendees enjoyed lively lunch discussions with peers from similar organizations or with similar board responsibilities. After lunch, speaker Simone Joyaux, ACFRE, provided an entertaining – and informative conclusion to the day as she cajoled participants to examine their fundraising strategies.
Remarked one attendee: “This really framed development in a new and interesting way.”
The Institute was made possible with the generous support of the Amelia Peabody Foundation, Bank of America Merrill Lynch - Philanthropic Management, North Shore United Way, Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation and Pingree School, which donated the space for the program.
Each attendee was given a resource book with the handouts from all the breakout sessions. Click here to view the resource book online.
Plans are already in the works for next year’s Institute in Spring of 2011. We’ll keep you posted! |
